The Future is Green for the Automotive Sector, says Shally Seth on October 27, 2022

By 2025 more automobile companies will manufacture electronic vehicles as India moves from a coal dependent economy to green energy powered electric vehicles(EV), said ace automotive reporter and associate editor Shally Seth during an online session with students at ACJ Bloomberg.

India’s dependence on raw materials like lithium-ion batteries will not disappear immediately but more and more companies in India are manufacturing cells to reduce the cost of EVs, said Seth.

“As a signatory of the Paris agreement, there is a lot of pressure on India to cut emissions,” she said during an interaction on the 27th of October highlighting the need for sustainable and environment friendly vehicles.

Even though electronic vehicles have less tailpipe emissions while in function, their manufacturing process has a significantly higher carbon footprint than their diesel counterparts. According to Japanese car makers–the biggest automobile manufacturers in the world–hybrid vehicles (a mix of diesel and electric vehicles) are the future as they require smaller battery packs and don’t need a charging infrastructure like EVs, said Seth.

As someone who has closely been tracking the industry for almost two decades, Seth elaborated on the change in the process of reporting for the automotive industry. “The way companies launch and market their products, the way they engage with the media has changed,” said Seth. Since the automotive sector generates huge readership, it’s important to keep the content interesting and balanced for the readers, she added.
